Cosmetic Procedures

Botox is one of the many trade names for the neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin that is the Bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In large doses, the protein causes botulism. However, the protein is used in cosmetic medicine to treat moderate to severe brow furrow (glabellar lines), wrinkles, and facial creases. These procedures use a small amount of diluted botulinum toxin that enables controlled weakening of muscles

How does Botox work?

Botox works to relax the contraction of muscles by blocking nerve impulses. The result is muscles that can no longer contract, and so the wrinkles relax and soften. It usually takes two to four days to see cosmetic improvement and the effects tend to last from four to six months. Most patients require retreatment to remove wrinkles and lines as they begin to reappear, but after each injection the wrinkles return as less severe as the muscles are trained to relax

How is Botox administered?

Botox procedures do not require anaesthesia and usually take just a few minutes to perform. The protein is injected into the muscle using a fine needle in order to minimise discomfort and maximise accuracy. It is recommended that patients avoid alcohol for about a week before the procedure. In order to minimise bruising, patients should stop using aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications about two weeks before treatment. At The Willows dental practice we are happy to offer a short appointment to come and have a chat with Dr Tualcz before starting any cosmetic treatment to find out what is achievable; just phone reception 01432 274749 to book.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to revitalise the skin. Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally exists in your body.  Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. It binds water and can act as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel consisting of stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

Dermal filler injections provide an easy way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, smooth the skin and give a more youthful appearance. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for around 6 to 9 months. Dermal filler injections can give a natural looking result that does not affect facial expression.  As your face changes over time, dermal fillers allow you to control you looks subtly as you age.

Dermal fillers can be used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and revitalise the skin. At The Willows dental practice we are happy to offer a short appointment to come and have a chat with Dr Tualcz before starting any cosmetic treatment to find out what is achievable; just phone reception 01432 274749 to book.
